The collection consists of two scrapbooks of newspaper clippings from Washington, DC and San Francisco, California. DuRell
did not arrange the clippings chronologically or by their subject, but there is a personal name and subject index at the beginning
of each volume. The clippings are about many subjects. Some of the most frequently covered subjects are the history of Washington,
DC, and its surroundings; mining and engineering; Presidents Woodrow Wilson, Calvin Coolidge, and Herbert Hoover; arts and
crafts; poetry; aviation via planes and dirigibles, including clippings about the Graf Zeppelin and Charles Lindberg; the
explorer Robert Byrd; and the discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb.

When Charles DuRell graduated from the Colorado State School of Mines, in June 1895, he delivered the salutatory oration.
Although he was not Jewish, DuRell's wife, Leah Simon, and her family were Jewish.
